Description

The observatory is situated on a hill about 200m away from the field station and was the first building to be completed in 1977. It was designed by the architects Dalsbøe-Nagell-Østgård in Tromsø. The observatory is used for research in the areas of aeronomy and astrophysics. The building consists of two parts: the concrete and wooden base and the metal cylinder with the rotating dome. The original clearly defined building has since been extended by portacabins and other installations.
