"Vegvokterbolig på Hatteng" (2 of 5)
Description
The house is built on a cross-plan principle, with the chimney in the middle. It is two storeys high, plus cellar, and is made of panelling with cross-notched exterior corners. The exterior of the house is clad with vertical boarding painted green, topped off by a steep gable roof clad with bitomenous felt. The house has mostly small-paned windows with double lights.
The tollgate house was originally constructed at Elvevoll in Storfjord in 1928 and was moved to its current site at Hatteng in 1939 because construction work had begun on the road from Kvesmenes to Skibotn. The house was built as accommodation for the Highway Authorities' supervisor for the area, Ole Kristian Kristiansen, who lived here with his wife Margrete Kristiansen and their children.
