"Buksnes kirke" (5 of 5)
Description
The altarpiece is from 1905 and has a simple design. Christ on the cross is the main motif, with the inscription "It is fulfilled" below. The framing has a Neo-Gothic style and the ornamentation provides associations to the Norwegian Middle Ages. The altar resembles the altarpieces found in Neiden (Sør-Varanger Municipality) and in the Lofoten Cathedral (Vågan Municipality). It was most likely designed by Jakob Digre's wood factory. Each of the three altarpieces has similar crucifixes, which are probably cast imports. During the renovation work performed in the 1960s, the altarpiece was repainted.
