"Sonjatun helsesenter og omsorgssenter" (3 of 6)
Description
Right next door to the health centre is the nursing home offering residential care for clients with dementia. This was built in two stages and the first was completed in 2000.
The first building consists of two wards with a tall central common room, service areas and upstairs staff rooms in the middle. The emphasis was on creating an easily recognizable environment with good contact to the outdoors. Instead of a conventional linear corridor the traffic areas within each ward are organised around an "island" of service rooms. This improves recognizability and increases the walkable distance for residents with a need to wander without them leaving the ward.
