"Rotsund kirke" (4 of 5)
Description
The church was constructed according to the designs of the architect Harald Sund, who here began to make his mark as Northern Norway’s foremost church and church restoration architect during the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Gildeskål in Nordland and had established himself as an architect in Kristiania in 1914, following his education in Trondheim and sixteen years’ training and work in England. In the report to the Church Department about the inauguration in 1932, Bishop Eivind Berggrav wrote admiringly: “Architect Sund has here once again created a church-house that does him great honour and gives the church great satisfaction”. Since the first designs for this church had been submitted in 1919 Harald Sund had become a well-established church architect, especially in Northern Norway.
