Description

The park is named after Ole Olsen (1850-1927) who was born and grew up in Hammerfest. He became a composer and conductor, and among his compositions were operas with themes from Finnmark. He also made a cantata for his hometown's centenary in 1889.

The bust was made by the sculptor Trygve Thorsen (1892-1965), and an identical one is also by Ole Olsen's grave at the Oslo cemetery Vår Frelsers gravlund. The naturalistic bronze is placed on a tall granite plinth and the composer overlooks the heart of his childhood's town.
