"Grenselandssenteret" (2 of 5)
Description
The wall running through the building arranges the site in an outward-reaching section localized to the main entrance and a recessed section on the north side of the wall. In the wall itself, clearly-defined functions are positioned, such as administration, study places, the kitchen, reception and the shop. The areas have been created with the greatest possible flexibility in mind. At certain points the various sections can be opened up to one another: the workshop and documentation section to the exhibition space, and vice versa. This offers the opportunity to wander around and circulate through the site with its varied content, according to whether it is being used for tourist or teaching purposes. Great emphasis has been placed on the connection between the museum’s various sections, both visually between the ground and upper floors but also from the exhibition area out towards the areas and countryside around. The level of openness or confinement can be defined by partition walls in relation to use and functions.
