"A/S Sydvaranger - produksjonsanlegg på Bjørnevatn" (2 of 7)
Description
The extracted blocks of stone are transported from the mines on lorries that empty the stone into the coarse crusher. Here the blocks of stone are crushed down to about head size. Bjørnevatn ore is especially hard and during the preliminary phase there were a number of difficulties with the equipment used for the crushing process because it was not solid enough.
The coarse crusher is named "Anders" after the engineer who developed this crusher. The coarse crusher building takes a rectangular shape and is made of whitewashed reinforced concrete. It has a gently arched roof that is clad with sheet asphalt. The exterior of the building has strong but simple detailing. On the northern side there are large openings in the wall where the lorries back in and empty their cargo of ore.
