The LOFAST route cuts through beautiful and vulnerable nature, so there has been a lot of emphasis on minimizing the effect of the road's encroachment. The highway authorities have used so-called natural revegetation, whereby the topmost layers of earth containing seeds and root growth are carefully cut away. These were looked after during the building process, in order to be replaced once the road construction was completed. By this means the indigenous vegetation was preserved.
