Description

The western half of the park was developed between 1900 and 1905 and it was laid out in accordance with classical ideals where symmetry and axes were important. This part of the park, sometimes referred to as the "1900 park", is surrounded by white paling with gates to the street. There are gravel paths, a birch avenue, a fountain and flower beds. A Swiss chalet style pavilion was built in 1905 at the southern end of the north south axis and its exact position is today marked by an octagonal area of slate paving slabs with a flag pole in the middle. When it was time to reconstruct the fountain from 1902, it was expected to be done from old photographs only. However, its old foundations were found and it became possible to reconstruct a new circular basin with a simple single water jet more or less identical to the original.
