Description

The inner square was elevated from the street level with robust granite levels. In addition, the bollards create a fibre optical division between the traffic zone and the pedestrian zone. Various types of materials were used to cover the ground such as, granite, local types of stone, partially unmodified slate and pebbles from the Lofoten beaches. Stylised relief impressions of boats form large geometric patterns on the floor of the town square - designed in granite and laid in the "paved" pebbles. This design is reminiscent of the history of Kabelvåg as a marketplace for the sale of boats, and in this respect enters into current day.

The form of the light poles is also influenced by the fishing history of Lofoten. They are formed like small sails that reflect and spread light.
