Description

The old boathouse at Maursund was intended to house a fembøring. It was reconstructed in the 1990s on its original site, based on photographs and descriptions. The turf-roofed boathouse is broad, with three doors towards the sea. The main room is made of cog-jointed planks, with an attic overhead. On either side of the main room are the boathouse galleries, built in a lighter fashion – a solid framework with vertical panel cladding. Both the main room and the boathouse galleries were used for the maintenance of boats and equipment. Up in the boathouse attic there may have been sleeping quarters for travellers and workers.

Today the boathouse contains objects, exhibits and stories linked to the coastal culture of the region.
