Kistrand Church is situated on the west side of the Porsangerfjord. The surrounding area is flat with low vegetation. The church is located near the edge of water and is easily visible. This church is one of the first Neo-Gothic churches that Grosch (1801-1865) designed. It was built roughly the same time as the Balsfjord Church in Troms and the Nesseby Church in Finnmark. On the exterior the church appears rectangular, orientation in an east-west direction, clad with white painted panelling. The long façades are symmetrically designed and have three tall windows in the central section. This motif is repeated on the sidewalls, but on a smaller scale. The steeple is comprised of a porch with ridge turrets, which are terminated with a tall spire.
