"Polmak kirke" (4 of 7)
Description
The old interior walls as well as the floor and the exposed roof trusses have been left untreated. When the big renovation took place, they were surprised to see how well the old materials had kept. In the extension of the nave the walls and the flat ceiling have been painted as have the two slim columns supporting the wall that was opened up for the gallery. In this way it is clear what is old and what is new.
There were from the time of building two walled pews at the front right side of the nave. During the 19th century these were used by the families of the merchant Schanke and the "lensmann" (the then top local legal representative of the authorities).
Some of the new equipment in the church has been supplied by Den Norske Husflidsforening (a national organization promoting and selling Norwegian handicrafts). Among these are the chasuble designed by Else Poulsson, the antependium and the wedding chairs. The organ, which has its own gallery in the west extension, was bought in 1949 from the organ makers Vestres Orgelfabrikk and is an electrically powered harmonium.
