"Berlevåg kirke" (5 of 7)
Description
The altar panel forms a triptych and was made by the Norwegian textile designer and artist Kåre Jonsborg. The motives in the six sections are taken from the life and work of Jesus. The same artist created a series of monumental decorations, amongst others the altar panels in Svalbard and Tonsen Churches. In his art he was preoccupied by geometric composition theories and the colour theories of Cézanne and Delacroix, of Piero della Francesca and of Picasso. Jonsborg travelled for a number of years around museums in Europe, studying old masters and collecting comprehensive pictorial documentation of their composition techniques. He was also a teacher at Statens kvinnelige industriskole (the National Women's School of Industry) and Statens Kunst- og Håndverksskole (the National School of Arts and Crafts) in Oslo.
