"Kjølnes fyrstasjon" (3 of 3)
Description
The machinery hall and the actual lighthouse are made of concrete. Both have a form based on a square shape, simple details and flat roofs - everything has a distinctive mark of Functionalism. However the form, materials and colour of the boathouse are all based upon traditional Norwegian boathouse design. At the time it was built there was no roadway access to Kjølnes, all of the transport occurred on the seaway. Therefore the concrete landing, together with the large boathouse that has four doorways, must be considered in light of this.
