"Kjølnes fyrstasjon" (2 of 3)
Description
The residential yard has two large vertically divided residencies which are situated at a right angle to one another. On the third side of the open yard there are sheds and a row of 4 outside lavatories, one for each family. Those who worked at the lighthouse had their families accompany them. There was only seaway access to the outside world when the lighthouse was built in 1949. The residencies are one-and-a-half-storied, built with wooden frameworks, and have slate covered saddle roofs. Eventually, most likely during the 1960s, the walls were externally clad with asbestos cement tiles. This material was considered maintenance-free.
