Description
A sauna (Sámi word: "sávdnji") was a common item found on farms in Kautokeino. This sauna is built of cogging jointed timber. It is a wood-fired sauna without a chimney, where the heater appears like a heap of stones, in the corner near the entrance door. Due to the risk of fire, the sauna was often situated at a good distance from the wooden buildings on the farm.
This sauna was originally a storehouse on pillars, but it was converted into a sauna at Biltosletta - before the building came to the museum.
