The settlements at Berget/Päri (the hill) date from after 1945 and very much represent the meeting between old traditions and new ways of doing things. This was the time of the reconstruction era in Northern Troms and Finnmark and the authorities provided blueprints for new houses and farm buildings. The new settlers used these, but here in Skallelv they went on adding the traditional extension for the livestock at the back as had been done for nearly a hundred years.
