"Eliseussen-gården" (5 of 5)
Description
The restoration of Eliseussen Farm in Kiby has been carried out over many years. The work is done along antiquarian lines and each building section removed is copied exactly with regard to both its design and quality. As this picture shows, in several places it has been necessary to remove large areas of the original timber wall.
Few of the original windows have been preserved. The contemporary façade consists of a mixture of windows from different periods of time. In the main south-facing façade the windows will be as they were in the 1930s.
The gable roof is built of beams, roof batten and black pasteboard. The existing pasteboard and cladding were fitted in 1975, with the help of funds from the Directorate for Cultural Heritage / The European Architectural Heritage Year. The original roofs of both the dwelling section and the cowshed were clad with turf. Parts of the old roof have been preserved on the north side of the dwelling-house. Here, the turf is laid in bonded sections and four layers of Russian birch bark cover the roof battens.
