The building’s visible and dominant materials are concrete, glass and zinc cladding. Steel bearings are essential to obtain the large projecting spaces – this photograph show the projection out over the café terrace.

The building was financed by Alstahaug municipality, Nordland regional municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, with contributions from local businesses. The architectural practice Snøhetta was involved in the project from the initial sketches in 2001 until its completion in the autumn of 2007.
