Description

Two war burial sites, a Russian and an international, are situated in a beautiful and quiet pastoral landscape near the sea - a lush landscape with grass, perennials, birch trees and tall junipers. When one travels along the main road, the gravesites appear like a park within the larger landscape, on a gentle slope at a low height between the road and the sea.

The gravesites form an area that is roughly 2.5 acres. Various materials were used here, such as trees that are native to this area, grass, sod and stone - all at different degrees of modification. The Russian gravesite is enclosed by a stone fence with sod on top. Inside the fence there is a gradual inclining grassy plain, with a tall stone monument at the top. The international gravesite is characterised by a gentle bowl-shaped form and appears to be a separate unit. At the same time, the positioning, landscape modifications and materials used were of a kind that unite the two gravesites to form one entity.
