Description

In 1946 five architecture firms received commissions from Norsk Hydro. These assignments were chiefly to formulate component range drawings for various residences that could be used by the company, and also be used in Glomfjord. There were single-, double- and four-roomed flats, along with flats in three-storied blocks. The component range drawings were used as the company's own residences, which were let out to the employees. The designs for the single family houses could be used by the employees who built the freeholder residences. In Glomfjord, as with other Hydro-sites, several of the standard houses built after World War II still remain standing today. A number of those designed by the architect Jens Selmer and the architect Wilhelm Swensen were especially popular. Here we see the plan for the first storey and the façade of a component range drawing for Norsk Hydro, made by Jens Selmer.
