Description

Here is an illustration of the Norsk Hydro compound fertiliser factory in Nedre Haugvik. This is a plan showing the entire complex and front elevation facing the fjord, drawn by the architects Thv. and Henning Astrup and Eivind Hellern. In the journal Byggekunst 7/1956 on page 19 the complex is described in this way:
"The complex---is comprised of 4 building shells made of reinforced concrete which covers an area of 14,500 square metres.
1. The warehouse for the rock phosphate and potash has a base area measuring 4,600 square metres and holds 30,000 tons. The roof is construed like a cylindrical shell.
2. The factory (wet and dry section) is determined by the chemical apparatus.
3. The finished products warehouse for bulk compound fertiliser is designed with a parabola-shaped shell roof. The warehouse measures 5,300 square metres and holds 35,000 tons.
4. The packing area has silos. The decks are designed like pilz-decks for large loads."
