"Gamslett" (2 of 5)
Description
The cottage was built at the turn of the 20th century. It is a typical Northern Norwegian two-roomed cottage with a loft for sleeping located above. On the upper side there is a porch with a storage room. The actual building structure is made of cogging jointed timber and clad with horizontal panelling. A sod roof crowns the building. The house is painted a yellow-ochre colour. Plain Empire windows decorate the entire house. The entrance door is actually older than the house itself, and possibly originated from the whaling station or marketplace Finnkroken on the island Reinøya. Adjacent to the house's southern gable lies a typical Northern Norwegian garden. It is fenced and planted with rowans, bird cherries, red currant bushes, rhubarb, hops and tansy.
