Gamslett is located roughly half a kilometre north of the ferry landing in Svensby. The complex is a typical Northern Norwegian fisherman's farm from the turn of the 19th century. The farmyard is situated on a level plain in a gradually sloping terrain, between the classified road and the sea. Altogether the yard is comprised of six buildings, a two-roomed cottage, small barn, stable, storage shed, outhouse and boathouse. The summer barn is located at the point where the fields transition into wilderness, just below the edge of the forest.

In addition to this old fisherman's farm, there are many buildings built right after WWII located on the other side of the road. For instance, there is a residence with an archive preserving Alf Gamslett's collection. This collection comprises 3,000 objects and reflects different aspects of the Northern Norwegian coastal culture, from work to leisure time.
