A short stretch of ropes and buckets are still in place on ropeway 3 between the junction and the processing plant by the harbour in order to illustrate how the ropeway system worked. Each bucket has a two-wheel hanger that ran along the rope. A hook, called the bucket rope gripper on the hanger, connected the bucket to the rope which was pulled by an engine in the engine shed under the junction building. Once emptied at the separation plant the buckets travelled empty back to their mine entrances.

The areal ropeway structures are both landmarks and memorials of times past. The junction building is lit during the dark season.
