The Blokkebærgrenda project was initiated by a group of people who wanted to be neighbours and plan their own houses. They set up a residents' association and commissioned the architect Kirsti Knudsen in Alta to do the overall site plan, design the houses and supervise the building work. Once completed the residents' association took on the day-to-day running and maintenance of communal areas and installations as well as representing the development's interests when needed.
