"Viken gård" (3 of 7)
Description
The main entrance, veranda and steep gable are symmetrically positioned and adorn the main house façade facing the courtyard. It possesses the Swiss-style fondness for carpentry detail, but also has a foreign air. Torleif Viken was a farmer, but also a capable handyman, evident in the appearance of both the exterior and the interior. In 1894 he travelled to Canada and helped to build up the Norwegian community in Bella Coola. He came back to Bardu after four years and started a family. This farmhouse was built immediately after his return and bears the mark of his time abroad.
