"Kirkegårdsveiens nedre del - villaer" (2 of 9)
Description
Kirkegårdsveien's northern side, from Karl Pettersens gate to Alfheimveien, was developed in the period 1888 to 1904. These villas represent the Swiss chalet style which was in fashion up until 1920. This style is also often rightly called "snekkerglede” (the carpenter's joy). This expression of Norwegian romanticism became widely accessible through new techniques of mass production of claddings, mouldings and carvings, which again inspired a lot of imaginative decorations. The houses typically have gabled steep slate roofs with prominently extended eaves. Another feature from this epoch is the open or glazed large verandas on the main facade as on Kirkegårdsveien 11, 15 and 10.
