Skolegata 42 is a stone building with a wooden extension on the back. The house consists of a basement, two storeys and a loft. It has a gabled roof with gables facing south and north, the main façade facing east onto the street. The entrance section is situated on the north wall of the house, consisting of a small extension with a hipped roof and two small-paned windows. The street-facing façade is more or less symmetrical on its middle axis. This impression is achieved by the positioning of the windows on the ground floor and a mid-positioned dormer window on the upper floor.
