"Stakken naustområde" (6 of 7)
Description
In the boat shed the wooden boats are built and repaired. The main frame of the building – the pillarwork, roof beams and rafters – is from the open boat shed that was set up at Tromsø Museum in the 1980s, then used for the construction of the fembøring Drauen. During the restoration work at Stakken it was cladded, and insulation was added to the roof and walls. Tran (cod liver oil) has been applied to the exterior red paint.
The smithy, wooden shack and fishing hut are all small-scale constructions built in the traditional fashion, but in the 21st century. They are all cog-jointed constructions, or cog-jointed combined with removable planking. The smithy and fishing hut are the only buildings with slate-covered roofs
