"Bankgata 7-13" (3 of 3)
Description
Norges Bank's branch in Tromsø was established in 1852 and acquired its own building in 1877. By 1924 there was a need for expansion and renovation. Therefore the building was annexed with a new storey and a Classical "face-lift" through plans drawn by the architect Peter Arnet Amundsen. The ionic pilasters on the façade extend over both stories and support the heavyweight entablature (the horizontal girder) below the roof. The main entrance is centrally located and a window axis is situated between each pilaster. Once Norges Bank acquired a new building in 1972, the older one was unnecessary and was eventually sold. Later it was converted into a restaurant.
