Description

Adjacent to the main building's south facing gable is an old garden
one side faces the street Skippergata and the other towards the street Søndre Tollbodgate. It is one of the few old town gardens in the Tromsø town centre that has survived until today. It is repaired and maintained by volunteers. The layout and the plants in the garden are most likely the same as they were at the turn of the 19th century. A garden path made of strewn shell sand was still well preserved, the form of the flower beds could be reconstructed and an old hawthorn hedge was still intact. Yet new perennials had to be transplanted from old Tromsø gardens.
