The architect Harald Sund (1876–1940) grew up in Gildeskål (southwest of Bodø), and after qualifying he worked in Christiania (now Oslo) in partneship with the architect August Nielsen from Sømna (the southern end of the county Nordland). They did a lot of renovation projects and also designed many new churches.
