"Nyksund i Vesterålen" (2 of 6)
Description
The wharf warehouses on the island Nyksundøy burned in 1934, and the replacements were built of masonry. The new warehouses are situated where the previous structures once stood. The section that collars out over the quay was rebuilt of woodwork. Three of the buildings have an L-shaped plan, where the rear portion is erected of cement stone and terminated with a saddle roof. The masonry buildings are distinctly unique, with vertical bands and corner terminations of the same colour. The cement stone was cast on-site, produced by the master builder Randolf Rødsand.
