"Gamle hovedbygning" (2 of 6)
Description
The olde main building is a long, two-story structure built of log timber and clad with vertical wooden boarding. The gable roof is covered with turf. It features Rococo-style windows with a central mullion and eight panes in each frame. The central part of the building facing the courtyard is symmetrical, highlighted by a double-leaf entrance door flanked by identical windows, with another window directly above the door on the second floor. Inside, the old baking oven remains intact.
The old main building dates back to the 18th century, though the exact year is unclear. Some believe it was built by Pastor Peder Krogh Hind in the 1740s, while others attribute it to Pastor Elling Rosted around 1770. A valuation from 1798 states that Rosted was responsible for its construction. Hind may have started the project, with Rosted completing it—this remains uncertain. The building is managed by the Mid-Troms Museum.
