Description

Like all buildings at Svalbard the Science Centre has pile foundations resting on the perm frost and elevated ground floors to avoid melting of the ground.
The load bearing constructions are mainly made of timber, and wood is much used on interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings and floors in the communal areas. In other areas there are painted plasterboard cladding and linoleum flooring.
The dominant material of the exterior is standing seam copper cladding.
