"Kvitnesgården" (5 of 7)
Description
This reconstructed reception room is called the “Klunkestua” after an interior style called “klunkestil” (named after the German word for tassel) which is characterised by heavily upholstered furniture decorated with elaborate trimmings, richly draped curtains and large green plants. Paintings and photographs with heavy frames, exotic ornaments and souvenirs were also used to create the right atmosphere.
Elsewhere in the house is the exhibition “De kjære vesener” (“The Beloved Beings”) about how young unmarried women in places like this have been portrayed in literature.
