"Charlottenlund friluftsområde" (1 of 7)
Description
Charlottenlund is an important recreational area on Tromsøya and part of the green corridor stretching from north to south along the top of the entire island. Charlottenlund was previously primarily attractive for winter activities, but with the development of "Nye Charlottenlund" (New Charlottenlund), the area has been enhanced with features that make it usable during the summer months as well.
The Charlottenlund park is situated in a landscape surrounded by forest. To the north, there is a spruce-covered hill that acts as a climate shield against the cold northern wind, while the south-facing slope captures the sun and offers views of the mountains to the south. The flat area, which is the most developed part, is framed by a red running track. Outside this track, most of the area is naturally overgrown, retaining nature qualities that are well worth preserving.
Nye Charlottenlund features areas for skiing activities, a ball court, sand volleyball courts, fire pits, a shelter, a climbing tower, a play forest, an obstacle course, a pump track, and climbing stones. At the center of the flat area is an artificial turf field, which is used for various ball games in the summer and as an ice-skating rink in the winter.
