Sømna Church is situated in the village of Vik, which is the administrative centre of Sømna District Council. You find the church 100m off the main thoroughfare, Kystriksveien (RV17).
The church and the churchyard, surrounded by a stonewall, is next door to Vik's open air museum called Gamle Vik (Old Vik).

Sømna Church was completed in 1876. Its nave has a cruciform footprint and a seating capacity of 600.
