Description
The picture shows the main house built in 1871 (left) and "Grålåna" (right) which was the main residence before 1871. the large household of owners and various categories of servants required living quarters and storage as well as numerous buildings connected to the farming. During the first half of the 19th century Forvik had 3-4 "jekter" (small wooden sailing ships with one square sail) sailing to and from Bergen with goods. They also sent boats to Lofoten and Finnmark during the fishing seasons and seal hunting expeditions to the Arctic Ocean.
