Description

Above the well lit nave is a suspended vaulted ceiling with a wide parabolic section that ends on entablatures resting on top of the circular columns separating the nave and isles which have seating running along the outer walls. The chancel is narrower than the nave, its floor is the traditional two steps up and it has the same parabolic suspended ceiling. The artist Carstein Lien was commissioned to paint the ceiling above the nave. He introduced an overall geometric pattern in white and light blue overlaid by fishing nets along the sides with stars above. In the centre he painted the outline of a sailing ship as a response to the Norwegian tradition of suspending a model of a ship above the nave ceiling.
