"Moskenes kirke" (5 of 5)
Description
The 18th century altarpiece is in a modest baroque style. The colours are darker and the forms more voluptuous than the rest of the interior in empire-style. The altarpiece's woodwork is richly moulded and some of it is marbled as was common during the 18th century. The central panel depicts the Last Supper and it is flanked by Moses and Aaron.
The altarpiece has been dated to 1765. It was made by craftsmen working for titular bishop Nikolai Christian Friis (1712-1777). During the second half of the 18th century they left their marks in many churches around the county of Nordland.
