The Eggum Rest Area is located on the northwest side of Vestvågøy in Lofoten where buildings stand on the narrow plain between ocean beaches and towering mountainsides. Every summer tourists gather here to watch the midnight sun from Kvalshausen, the hillock behind which the rest area is sheltering. The circular stonewalls on top of Kvalshausen are remains of a derelict radar station built by the Germans during the Second World War. The road leading to this far outpost is not a thoroughfare, hence parking places have been created including bays for camper vans. The old gravel pit on the lee side of Kvalshausen was transformed into the shape of an amphitheatre in 2007. Cars can park on its floor and there is a small service building, which contains a room for multipurpose usage and toilets.
