The second part of the nursing home was completed in 2004. This has one ward for residents with dementia and another for children with multiple disabilities. The two buildings are side by side and together with the health centre they create an outdoor space embracing both health and residential care.

The nursing home at Sonjatun has generated national interest because of its special designs for residents with dementia, and the development is followed with interest by the Norwegian State Housing Bank and the Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Ageing and Health.
