"Nordreisa kirke" (3 of 5)
Description
The walls in the interior of the sanctuary room have a striking appearance. They are unpainted and made of timber. Located in between the nave and the choir, on each side, are cogging jointed rooms that serve as sacristies. This makes the choir seem quite deep. The choir is situated three levels above the nave. The majority of the furnishings, such as the pulpit and baptismal font, were commissioned specifically for the church. All of these items, as well as the pews, are oak wood grained (painted to resemble oak). Mons Breivik painted the altarpiece, dated 1923. The motif is of Jesus being taken down from the cross. This depiction is a replica of a renowned painting by the Dutch Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens.
