Description

The three storage sheds lie in a row with the gables and openings facing towards the yard. This is a traditional way of arranging the buildings for the "Kvens" (People living in Northern Norway of Finnish descent) and Sámi in the Northern Troms County. Originally these sheds were located on the hillside, but were moved in 1917 in order to make room for the outbuildings. The southernmost shed is used to store meat. It is built using shelter construction and has a sod covered roof. The middle shed is made of cogging jointed timber with a sod covered roof. It is possibly the oldest building at Tørfoss, it is likely that it dates to the 18th century. This shed was used to store food and clothing. The third structure is a tool shed, built using shelter construction with vertical boards nailed to the outside of a cogging jointed structure. This shed has a roof covered with wooden planks, a so-called plank roof.
