In 2004 the architects A-lab won an international architectural competition to design Hammerfest Arctic Cultural Centre. The chosen site was previously occupied by Findus' large fish factory which had for decades been a core industry in town. The cultural centre is the first step in Hammerfest's harbourside regeneration plan which aims to introduce new activities and create architectural identity.
