"Østsamisk museum" (1 of 3)
Description
The Eastern Sámi Museum is both a museum and a cultural centre. It is situated above and north of the old Skolt Sámi (Eastern Sámi) settlement Skoltebyen and the village Neiden, as well as being close to the main road E6.
The building is not large and has a rectangular footprint and a flat roof. A big rhomboid skylight brings daylight into the interior and is also an important part of the buildings visual appearance. Another aspect of the design is that the roof can be accessed from the skylight or an external staircase. The outside walls have horizontal wooden cladding with robust triangular boards that further underlines the introverted character of the building.
